These hurleys are crafted from premium planks of ash timber. The lower part of the ash tree, including its root structure, is expertly extracted from the earth by a forester. This log is then carefully quarter-sawned by a sawmill operator who skillfully reads the grain structure and meticulously slices each plank from the log. The planks are stacked and allowed to air dry or season naturally for up to six months to reduce the moisture content and strengthen the timber. Each plank is selected from the stacks to produce individual hurleys, ensuring that no two are identical. Each one is carefully chosen to suit the required Hurley style.
